Your Christmas wish?
Here are some coaching prompts to help you work it out...
This morning, I was listening to Oprah Winfrey interview Arthur C. Brooks on her Supersoul podcast and he said something that caught my attention.
He said: doing something nice for someone else will make you happier.
I’ve heard this before but I’d not thought about it for some time.
Of course, I often do things for others - for my husband and kids, my parents, friends - but it’s more on autopilot than intentional.
Things like buying presents, arranging parties, making dinner, clearing up, making cups of tea and coffee.
That conversation reminded me that intentionally doing something that makes someone else happy - a random act of kindness - gives you a release of oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine.
You get to give and receive in one go.
Perhaps as busy working women, it’s hard to find the physical and mental space to think about doing yet more for others.
Especially at this time of the year.
So I wondered if it’s possible to think something nice, rather than do a physical act.
As many of us are rounding up our work for the holidays, I wondered if you might like to join me in creating a list of Christmas wishes?
A simple coaching exercise that will give you space to think about what you’d like and then to make some wishes for others.
It starts with you because when you’re feeling healthy, energised and positive, you’re in a better place to give to others.
Christmas (or ‘Holiday’) wishes
Let’s start with your personal wish: what do you wish for yourself?
What would you like to wish for your family?
What do you wish for your three closest friends?
What would you like to wish for your neighbour?
What would you like to wish for, globally?
What do you wish for politically?
What do you wish for in terms of the planet?
What is your wish for the future?
I’d love to hear what you come up with in the comments, if you fancy sharing.

Beautiful. This reminds me of the loving-kindness meditation, but an active version. What a lovely way to end the year.
You've just reminded me that I need to revisit Oprah's work. I used to watch her Supersoul Sunday series religiously and I credit it with offering me so many 'aha' moments.
Thanks for the prompt.
Self: I'd like to be pregnant soon.
Family: To free themselves of limiting beliefs.
Friends: 1. Love 2. Hope 3. To fight the Cancer.
Neighbour: For her return to work from maternity leave to be as gentle as possible.
The world: Genuinely don't know where to start with this one.
Politics: A deeper acceptance of differing points of view.
The planet: More innovation to help purify the most polluted countries and benefit the planet as a consequence.
The future: Global self-awareness.
