I’ve been busy.
Since 2015, I’ve set up three different online platforms - The Early Hour, The Robora, Raise your SQ - while working as a freelance journalist, having three non-fiction books published, self-publishing three poetry books, running an online course and coaching business and doing lots of public speaking.
It’s been fun, exciting and - at times - lucrative. But I’ve also had three babies in that time - now aged 8, 6 and 3 - and the combination of motherhood and all the different platforms and ways of working have started to feel a little scattered and overwhelming. So, it’s time to consolidate.
Here’s why I’ve joined Substack…
1. Simple is better
I’d like to be able to write - and talk - about all my areas of interest (women, writing, work, wellbeing, ‘woo’ and SQ) on one platform. Instead of three mailing lists, I’d like one. You see, the further I venture into both motherhood and work, the more I realise that simple is better. Strip it back; minimise.
2. Why Substack?
Because, frankly, it’s free. I’ve spent a lot of money on other email platforms over the years and now, I like the idea of only paying if people are paying me (via a subscription). I’ve monetised my writing in various ways over the years and it feels exciting to try and do it this way now.
3. Writing habits
I love writing. I do it every day - in poem form, passages that I share on Instagram, lists, articles, book proposals, books, guided meditations, courses. And I know that the more I do it; the more I do it. And the better it becomes. So I’m going to write a weekly newsletter.
7. Numbers
Yeah, I went from 1 to 2 to 3 to 7. I skipped 4, 5 and 6 because I love the number 7. It’s a strong, spiritual number. I also love 3 and 13. So expect lists of 3, 7 and 13 in my newsletters.
