I’m pausing my Substack for one month.
I’ve posted every single week for two years and seven months. There are over 300 essays in the archive. Now, I need a month off to rest and reset, creatively.
What this means for you
If you are a monthly paid subscriber: I have paused your payments so that you pay nothing for the next month.
If you pay annually: your payments are also paused. You’ll have this month added on at the end of the cycle, so you still get the 12 months of essays you’ve paid for.
All paid subscribers: I will be sending you a voucher, as a gift, so that you can access any one of my online courses for free. I’m grateful for your support.
If you are a free subscriber, you don’t need to do anything. In a month, the essays will start up again.
If you’re not subscribed, and would like to be, you can do that by clicking the pink box below and in a month, you’ll get my return essay directly to your inbox:
I’d love to know…
How are you feeling about paid subscriptions on Substack?
Do you prefer to pay a monthly subscription for written articles/essays, or if workshops, courses and online meet-ups are also included?
How are you feeling about social media, at the moment?
How is your work-life feeling? What’s working; what’s not?
When I return, is there a subject you’d like me to write more (or less) about?
Thank you for reading, supporting and being all-round excellent. I appreciate you. Feel free to ask questions and leave comments below.

By the way…
I’ll still be sharing poetry on Instagram most days.
If you’d like some even longer-form writing from me, these are the three non-fiction books I’ve had published.
Lastly, I teach through online courses.
See you in a month.

Wow thank you Annie what a generous offer for paid subscribers and amazing that you are giving yourself some time off the app. You are the most regular writer I follow on here!
Honestly my interaction with Snstacj has dwindled hugely recently. I began to feel completely overwhelmed by all the writing on here and millions of subscriptions (mostly unpaid) It got too much so I have stopped lots of subscriptions and am engaging much less.
My relationship with social media feels similar. I don't like how now every other post is trying to sell you a subscription to something, everyone wants you to sign up to their newsletter using click bait. It feels very noisy and disingenuous to me at the moment, especially IG and FB. I am currently trying to market a womens circle and as soon as i'm done with that I want to take a break from the apps.
Life has become more challenging as my son has started to refuse school and so his health and wellbeing has to take precedence over work.
Such a juggle!
Applauding your decision and the way you look after your subscribers xx
Good for you, Annie. It’s important to take breaks. I’m a recent paid sub and have taken one of your fantastic courses. It’s hard to choose which paid subscriptions to go for - we can’t sub to them all, but I like supporting writers I relate to and who have put in the work, like yourself. Enjoy the break - sounds like you deserve it after that level of consistency over the years!
