I didn’t really enjoy my wedding day

But I did enjoy the weekend my husband and I got together and so that’s the one we celebrate every year. We got together at Notting Hill Carnival.

I was quite young when I got married - 25 - and I was the first amongst my friends, so there was no advice being shared about how to actually enjoy the day. My friends said they loved our wedding, but I felt a bit confused. I was like an awkward interloper, skirting around the edges so as not to be noticed.

The lead-up had been mixed.
